Wardrobes — type 2 of 3

Hinged wardrobes.

Doors that swing open, so the whole interior is in front of you at once. The simpler mechanism of the two — it only asks for room to open.

Free, at your home, no obligation — the measurements are yours to keep either way.

To be straight with you: we have no photograph of a wardrobe we can honestly show you, so this page shows none rather than passing off a picture of something else.

When to choose it

Where a hinged wardrobe wins — and where it costs you.

General wardrobe-planning guidance, not a measurement of your room. Every type is a trade, and we would rather you knew both halves of it before we come and measure.

Choose hinged when

  • There is clear floor in front of the wardrobe for a door to swing into.
  • You want to see the full depth of the interior in one go, front to back.
  • The inside is shelf-heavy or drawer-heavy and you would rather reach all of it at once.
  • As a rule, hinges are the simpler and less expensive of the two mechanisms, so more of the budget can go into the interior.

What you give up

  • It needs swing clearance — roughly the width of the door, kept clear in front of it.
  • In a narrow room an open door can block the walkway, or foul the bed.
  • A wide opening needs two doors rather than one, so there is a frame line down the middle.
  • The doors carry their weight on the hinges, so tall or mirrored shutters need the hinge count matched to them — that is settled on the design, not guessed at.

Guidance, not a rule — the room usually decides, and we will say so plainly on the free measurement

What is inside

The doors are the smaller half of the decision.

What actually decides whether a wardrobe works is the inside of it: how much of it hangs, at what heights, how many drawers there are and what else has to fit. That is specified per design — not picked off a standard list — and itemised in your quotation.

Hanging Full-height and half-height runs, set to what you actually hang
Shelving Fixed and adjustable shelves, and the loft unit above if the height allows
Drawers Drawer banks on soft-close runners, sized around what goes in them
Accessories Shoe racks, pull-outs, mirrors and lighting, chosen on the design

Categories, not a specification — two wardrobes of the same width can be laid out completely differently inside. Yours is written down after the measurement.

Built like our kitchens

Nothing about a wardrobe is a lesser job here.

Your hinged wardrobe is cut, edge-banded and assembled on the same 95,000 sq ft floor at Raipur Rani, Panchkula district, by the same people, from the same hardware shelf as our kitchens — and it leaves with the same written warranty. You are welcome to come and watch.

  • Made on our own floor at Raipur Rani, Panchkula district, not bought in and badged. Never outsourced
  • Hettich and Blum hinges, runners and soft-close systems, fitted as standard. Never generic hardware
  • A 10-year warranty covering panels and hardware against manufacturing defects — full terms in the written document you receive. Never a verbal promise
  • Furniture since 1998, modular kitchens since 2009 — 17 years of it.

How wardrobes are priced

Measured first, priced after — per design, in writing.

We publish a rate card for kitchens because a kitchen is largely base and wall units. A wardrobe is not like that. Two hinged wardrobes of exactly the same width can cost very different amounts once the inside is settled, so we will not print a figure here that your wardrobe would then have to be squeezed into.

What actually moves the number:

  • The dimensions — width, height and depth of the run.
  • How much of it hangs, and at what heights.
  • How many drawer banks are inside, and on what runners.
  • Shelves, shoe racks, pull-outs and the rest of the internal fittings.
  • Mirrors, glass, lighting and a loft unit above.
  • The finish on the shutters, and whether the doors slide, swing or are left off.

So the order is: free measurement at your home, then a design, then a written price that itemises what is in it. Nothing is quoted before it is measured.

The experience centre

Open a door before you decide anything.

Come and pull a drawer out to full extension and see the Hettich and Blum hinges and runners working, on our own floor, before you commit to a design.

We have no wardrobe photography we can stand behind yet, so we are not going to show you a picture of something else and call it a wardrobe. There is a good deal on the floor at the experience centre — come and open a door. Real wardrobe photographs go up here as soon as we have them.

Questions

Asked about hinged wardrobes.

Should I choose a hinged wardrobe?

As general guidance: yes, when there is room for a door to swing — you get the full depth of the interior in one view, and the mechanism is the simpler of the two. The trade-off is the clearance it needs, roughly the width of the door, which is exactly what a narrow room does not have. If the floor in front is committed to something else, sliding doors are usually the answer instead. We will say which one your room takes on the free measurement visit.

What goes inside a hinged wardrobe?

Hanging space at full and half height, shelving, drawer banks on soft-close runners, and accessories such as shoe racks, pull-outs, mirrors, lighting and a loft unit above. How much of each you get is decided on your design rather than fixed in advance — two wardrobes of exactly the same width can be laid out completely differently inside. Whatever is specified for yours is itemised in the written quotation you receive after the free measurement.

Is a hinged wardrobe built to the same standard as your kitchens?

Yes. It is cut, edge-banded and assembled in the same 95,000 sq ft factory at Raipur Rani, Panchkula district, by the same people, with Hettich and Blum hardware fitted as standard — and it leaves with the same 10-year warranty, in writing, never a verbal promise. The warranty covers panels and hardware against manufacturing defects; the full terms are in the written document you receive, and you are welcome to read them on the free measurement visit before you order anything. We have made furniture since 1998 and modular kitchens since 2009.
